CEDAR VILLAGE CARE FACILITY
MASON, OHIO
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Client: Cedar Village Retirement Center
Location: Mason, Ohio
Size: 30 acres
A unique religious retirement center and health care campus was created in the north Cincinnati suburban fringe. The facility combines two separate Jewish retirement homes into one. A multi-level care, geriatric facility was created in a portion of an old farmstead. It includes apartments, assisted care units, nursing beds and worship spaces. Situated on approximately thirty acres, the facility is designed based upon the cluster concept which emphasizes “neighborhood” living.
The master plan creates a dramatic landscape setting incorporating a storm water retention pond and water jet at the entry. A symbolic planting of forty Cedars of Lebanon was located near the gateway. A 270+ year old Oak tree was preserved as the centerpiece of a permanent greenspace and walking garden. A memorial to fallen soldiers is incorporated into the walking garden.
Special sensory gardens, a “Memory Garden” for Alzheimer patients and outdoor therapeutic spaces were incorporated into the master plan as well as a playground for young visitors.
A Sukkah Plaza and outdoor gathering garden was also created to facilitate special events and gatherings. The village gardens surround the complex providing beautiful vistas, sitting spaces and seasonal color for sitting areas and client rooms.
